About CSVC

Distinguished astronomers and crescent moon observers,

Crescent Sighting Verification Committee (CSVC) was founded on October 18th 2020 on behalf of two Iranian pioneers in crescent moon sighting Mohammad Reza Sayyad and Mohsen G. Mirsaeed who selected CSVC members among the experienced crescent moon chasers and researchers.    

Amateur astronomers have been enthusiastic about crescent Moon since long time ago. When it comes to Iranian observers and investigators, they have obtained significant results on slender crescent Moon observations during the recent decades.

CSVC members are amateur astronomers and crescent moon observers and the Committee follows precise review of international reports and verifying them. The verification tables has been categorized in confirmation, rejection and waiting list based on the CSVC opinion.

Additionally the committee follows these goals:

  • Analysis the reports, publication of the results and reconsidering the distinctive reports in order to compare them with similar ones.
  • To offer CSVC website as an opportunity to share experiences among the crescent sighting community
  • Suggesting standard guidelines for observation reports
  • Publishing the confirmed annual records
  • Call for featured crescent observations  

The CSVC members have been studding the received international reports from 1859 till 2021. Fortunately by the end of 2021, almost a year after the foundation of CSVC, the preliminary verification lists were finalized to be published on the committee website.

In line with CSVC goals, the Committee warmly invites astronomy activists, enthusiasts, observers and astronomers to send their reports to CSVC to be verified. The reporters are supposed to accept the conditions below in order to get involved in the verification network.

  • Reports will be reviewed by CSVC members and the result will be announced according to the Committee members’ viewpoint.
  • Reporters should respect the final result.
  • CSVC may demand the reporters, additional documents in case it’s needed.
  • CSVC founders may give their opinions about the reports.
  • CSVC members will carefully and impartially review the received observation reports.
